When we look at worldviews, we need to ask basic epistemological and ontological questions - what is the nature of reality? Who am I/ How do we know something? How can we prove it?

For example, in faith based worldviews, the perceived value of an idea was directly related to their proximity to God, as ordained in scripture. If it was endorsed by a pre-existing authority, then it was deemed valid

With the rise of the modern era, 500 years ago, a whole new set pf philosohical questions were asked. In a period of intense metaphysical thinking, they fundamentally renounced the idea that validity of something should be derived from religious scripture or theology. They believed that knowledge could be derived through empirical research. This  was the Scientific Method.

In the scientific method, you could acquire empirical data, make hypotheses, experiments done to validate or invalidate hypotheses. In a way, new knowledge could be developed, and put to good use.

Powerfully articulated by Newtonian laws, where you have discrete entities interacting through a linear cause and effect. This is the mechanistic paradigm. The vision of science was to discover the laws of nature and thereby explain all natural phenomena. This faith in science gave rise to the philosophical movement called positivism - (study of society that relies specifically on scientific evidence, such as experiments and statistics, to reveal a true nature of how society works.)

20th century, the birth to quantum physics and relativity.

New paradigm Systems Paradigm - a number of assumptions that counter the newtonian paradigm.
